The first Nutiva Product
It began with a man with a passion for wholesome organic foods. Our Founder John Roulac launched Nutiva with 500 hemp seed bars. Our name was also hemp-inspired: Nutiva-NUT of a Cannabis satIVA.
All Nutiva products are Certified Organic for the sake of people and the planet. The organic process protects natural habitats by promoting biodiversity and soil fertility while ensuring that that all ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, fertilizers, GMOs, ionizing radiation or detrimental herbicides like glyphosate.
The Detox Project’s Glyphosate Residue Free certification accredits that Nutiva products have no glyphosate residue down to the U.S.’s government-recognized limits of detection for foods, commodities and supplements (typically 0.01 ppm). To meet the requirement, Nutiva has established intensive testing and protocols with its suppliers. Every lot is selected to meet USDA Certified Organic standards prior to approval of shipment, and once the product is received at its FDA and Safe Quality Food (SQF) certified facility, Nutiva sends a composite sample to a third-party lab that tests for 450 herbicides and pesticides as well as a microbiological analysis.
Nutiva is a proud to be a Climate Collaborative Leader in the One Step Closer group. The program accomplishes all of this by specifically targeting people’s habits and emotional relationships with food. The Whole30 is designed to help break unhealthy patterns of behavior, stop stress-related comfort eating, and reduce cravings, particularly for sugar and carbohydrates. Many Whole30 participants have described achieving “food freedom”—in just thirty days.
